Captain’s Blog July 27, 2011 (Day 82) Sam’s Town Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada

We woke to boiling hot temps in the low 100’s and that was at 7:30 AM. What would the rest of the day bring as we traveled deeper into the desert?

Although Las Vegas was only 150 miles away and the speed limit was the same for cars, trucks and MH’s it felt like it was taking forever. The desert is no exactly a picturesque place, so not a lot to look at.

Since this was the main  and only route from LA to Vegas the traffic was heavier then we expected.

We finally arrived in Las Vegas around 3 PM.  It was really very hot and you felt like you were standing  in front of a superhot furnace blowing unbreathable air in your face.

When I had called to make reservations I asked the woman if they had trees and grass in the CG. She basically laughed and stated not much grass and even fewer trees. Surprisingly she did get us  a spot with three small trees so we did have some shade on one side of the MH. The temps were so hot that the trees really didn’t make much difference but we had our trees as requested.

Sam’s Town Casino and RV Park sits 6 miles off the strip. It was off – season so the rates not bad at $30.40 per night including the 8% tax. OUCH! It’s a pretty nice park with gravel everywhere and not too many trees. There are larger trees outside the park directly behind us but not many.

After settling in and deciding if we were crazy to be in Vegas in July we headed over to Sam’s Town Casino.  It was an OK casino and the interior was pretty nice. We took in the water laser show but it was too early to get the really good light effects. We planned to return for a later show.

There were cool animatronics – the bear stood on its hind legs and growled and the baby deer was looking around, the eagle spread its wings. All in all a  cute show.

After the show we had dinner and although we are  not buffet people we opted for the buffet and really enjoyed it. We walked back to the CG and it was still oppressively hot at 103 degrees at 10 PM. We were hoping for a cool down so we could walk the strip on Thursday – LOL!!
