We left Oxnard around 11 am for the 360 mile drive to Las Vegas. The temps in the Oxnard area were warming up – just in time for our departure!
Before leaving Ron called Poulsbo to let them know the second AC repair was completed and asked how to proceed for reimbursement. Of course, the manager was unavailable to take our call. We left a message and the wait began.
We knew we would be skirting L.A. so were prepared for the traffic. We have been all over the country and California definitely has the market cornered on traffic.
As we drove further south/east the temp continued to climb. Now the big test for our newly repaired AC – would it work???? AAAAHHHH – yes, it did and we were comfortably cooled as the temps continued to rise as we travelled through the Mojave Desert.
Not very attractive in the desert.
We stopped for fuel in Hesperia at a Pilot travel center in the middle of nowhere. It was hot but there was a breeze so we had a quick lunch and discussed our next stop. Should we stay in a rest area or CG??? No real choice with the temps climbing – so a CG it would be.
Just as Ron was starting the RV the phone rang. It was Scott from Poulsbo. Much to our surprise it went well and the $625.00 will be reimbursed without question. YEAH!
We stopped at the Barstow KOA and when we stepped out of the coach we felt like we had just stepped in a molten lava bed. OMG! We have gone from cool and comfortable to hot and stifling all in a span of 4 hours. What were we thinking – heading to Las Vegas in July ????
We had some difficulty securing a big enough site. They had to put us in the “wheel”. We basically took up one and one-half sites and had the front end of the MH in the road. Ron took care of the hook-ups and despite the claim of cable TV at every site – there was none in the “wheel.” OK then – I guess. Nothing we could do to change that so Ron tried the antenna- Nope – no reception at all. Not much to watch on TV anyway.
Its very barren in this area so no grass for poor Jewel. She is not having a good time. She misses her grass and shade trees.
After Jewel’s walk she had to stop under a bush to get some shade. She was having some problems breathing and cannot tolerate the heat at all.
Thank goodness we opted for a CG instead of a stopover in a rest area. The night temp never dropped below 100 and the air was oppressive.
