Captain's Blog July 10, 2011 (Day 65) Driving Day , rest Area Dunnigan , CA

We left the Golden Bear CG around noon heading to  Yosemite National Park. Our original plan was to go to Lake Tahoe and Volcanoes National Park then Yosemite. After doing some online research we discovered that Volcanoes was still under several feet of snow with the main road only open for seven miles with no open trails. Tahoe’s ski slopes were still open and Ron wasn’t crazy about doing another 10,000 foot climb in the MH.

The drive towards Yosemite was very long but very scenic with many lakes along the way.

Around 9 PM we were looking for a place to stop for the night. We found a place at a trail site so pulled in. At that point we were at least 60 miles in either direction from civilization with no cell phone service. I was trying to be brave and not let Ron know I was uncomfortable staying there. Luck would have he didn’t feel comfortable either. So after some discussion we headed down the road to a rest area some 68 miles away.

We got to the rest area and did feel more comfortable with lots of people around. Were we safer? Not really sure, but we felt better and had a cell phone signal as well albeit only 2 bars. LOL
