Captain’s Blog May 8, 2011 ( Day 2 ) Berkshire, Ohio

We spent the night in a rest area last night. Although it was very quiet we didn’t get a good night’s sleep. We went to bed too early and kept waking up.

We put in a long day today driving over 400 miles . Some of the roads were really destroyed by the winter snow and plows resulting in a very bumpy ride through some areas. Jewel was very frightened and at one point jumped off the couch into my lap shaking like crazy. I couldn’t calm her down despite holding her and trying to talk to her. We finally stopped at a Wal Mart and bought doggy anti-anxiety pills.

She took one pill and really calmed down. Managed to get through the rest of the ride without incident. We now call Jewel our traveling  drama queen.

Tomorrow we keep on driving. We are now questioning our decision to do a marathon run to Colorado.

We stopped at a Flying J for gas and Ron noticed that the step wouldn’t open when he opened the door. Very odd because we had no problems prior. Then I noticed that the lights in the MH would not work and the fridge was not working either.

After gassing up Ron did some investigative work and found that the battery terminal cable to the house batteries had broken off. It was late and unlike Ron who normally has doubles of everything, he didn’t have a spare. We found an automotive store down the road and Ron replaced the cable. Presto- everything started working fine again.

It was now quite late and the Flying J accommodates RV’s so we took the opportunity and stayed for the night.
