The weather here has been somewhat unpredictable. The forecast changes from hour to hour so we went with sunny , rain predicated around 4 pm. We took advantage of the early day sunshine and headed back to the Garden of the Gods.
We decided since it is a dog friendly park we would take Jewel with us. Once again we are amazed at the rock formations within the park. The rocks are actually standing on end from the uplift of the surface of the earth from the tectonic plates crashing against one another. Depending upon the force of the collision some of the rocks are perpendicular to the earth while others rest at varying angles.
As we walked through the park the rock formations changed. There were many rock climbers out and they were fun to watch.
Driving to other areas of the park provided us with beautiful vistas that you only see in pictures. Too beautiful to be real – but they are.
We stopped at a picnic area to eat lunch sharing the area with Geology majors from the University of Colorado. It started to sprinkle and the clouds looked pretty ominous so we decide to finish up our tour and take a ride over to the Balanced Rock.
After leaving the park we opted to stop at Seven Falls and hike there but unfortunately it began raining, the wind picked up and it got very dark, very fast. Instead we headed back to the CG stopping at the visitor center along the way.
What a beautiful lounge for CG guests. The fireplace is magnificent and the views pretty nice too. We can only imagine what the finished CG would have been like if funding had not dried up.
We experienced some thunder and lightening but not as bad as some parts of southwest Colorado. I guess there were several tornados up near the Denver area. OMG, I hate tornados.
Tomorrow is our last reserved day here at Cheyenne Mountain. Not sure if we will try to secure another site or move on.
