Captain’s Blog May 12, 2011 (Day 6) Colorado Springs , Colorado

What a change in temperature from yesterday morning. We went from 93 degrees to 45 degrees. No shorts and sandals today. It was extremely windy again with the projected temps to be no higher then 55.

We left Colby around 9:30 am for the 216 mile drive to Colorado Springs. Shortly after leaving it started to pour and the  cross winds were worse then yesterday.

With the driving rain and wind Ron felt like he was doing a hard day of physical labor. It felt like it was taking forever to get to Colorado Springs – and it was!

The temp stayed in the low 40’s and  there was snow on the ground – UGH! We thought we left the snow behind but I guess not. There were intermittent  snow showers in the area, enough snow that some cars had snow blowing off their roofs.

We finally arrived at the KOA around 2PM and the temp had climbed to 54.  After setting up we took a long needed break. Ron was so out of sorts he didn’t even want to plan the rest of our stay here. So not like him.

We had picked up multiple brochures at the Visitor Center and if we can get motivated there is a ton of things to do.  So far not a whole lot to share but hopefully that will change in the next few entries.
