It sure got cold again last night – 34 degrees but we were nice and cozy with the furnace at full blast.
We left Immigrant State CG around 9:30 am and headed for the Columbia Gorge River that divides the state of Oregon and Washington right down the middle.
We decided that we would cross the bridge to the Washington side of the Gorge and stay at the MaryHill State Campground. Luckily we were able to get the one site they had available on the Columbia Gorge River.
Everything here is so lush and green from all the rain and the temps are in the 70’s with bright sunshine. Quite a change from this morning. And we only drove 132 miles to warm up.
Once settle in we decided to head out to Stone Henge a war memorial and exact replica of the one in England. When we arrived there were two bus loads of teenagers there so it was difficult to get a good feel for the place.
After the majority left there were still some goofy kids climbing on the spires that were pretty high. Not a good place to fall from.
Next it was on to the Maryhill Museum of Art. A very interesting castle-like chateau on a 5,000 acre site overlooking the Columbia River Gorge.
There many beautiful artifacts in the museum but no photographing was allowed.
After leaving we drove around the area and enjoyed the wild flowers growing just about everywhere. We were surprised to learn that despite all the rain the lawn at the CG has a sprinkler system in place and gets watered daily.
Tomorrow we will do the Columbia Gorge River Scenic Highway.
