We were on the road by 10:30 am heading for the ‘Tunnel”. In order to drive through the tunnel you have to pay $15.00 for the privilege. Ron set up his video cam on the windshield but just as he wanted it to tape his drive through the tunnel it shut off. Since the MH is so large and the windshield far from the driver it was impossible for him to turn it back on. Nice try but no tunnel video. Poor Ron.
The Drive to Bryce was uneventful and the scenery ever changing again.
The closer we got to Bryce Canyon the brighter the color of the rocks.
Since it was Saturday we weren’t sure if we would be able to get a camp site in Bryce itself but we did luck out once again. National Park campgrounds are dry camping –so no utilities. No problem since we’re self contained. We got a great site and since we are seniors the cost for us was $7.50 per night.
Once again we settled in and headed to the visitor center for info. We decided to take advantage of the daylight and take a ranger walk along Sunset Point to Sunrise Point. The views were magnificent and colors so vivid, changing with the light from bright oranges’ to light pinks.
After the ranger walk to took a ride to Inspiration Point for more beautiful Hoodoos and rock formations.
We were not expecting what we were seeing despite our research. Seeing in person is quite different then seeing a picture. The hike up to lower Inspiration Point was difficult but we had more to go. At 8000 feet we hadn’t yet acclimated to the change in altitude so we were both struggling a little. Once at the top of the viewing platform we were not disappointed.
Back at the CG we relaxed for a brief period, had dinner and then at 9 PM went to the Ranger Astronomy Program. We had been to one in the Badlands two years ago and loved it so much we decided we wanted to attend another. The Ranger was excellent, humorous but most of all informative. After the program we all went behind the Visitor Center where five high powered telescopes were set up with there operator's. Once again we were treated to a view of Saturn with its’ rings and moons, the moon up close and personal, plus the Dumbbell Nebular. It was quite an interesting evening and we didn't get to bed until way after midnight. Another great day on the road! OOPHS, I didn’t say that did I???
